The company has focused on innovation from the very beginning. FLEX has been developing hand-held tools since 1922. At that time, Hermann Ackermann and Hermann Schmitt founded the company Ackermann + Schmitt in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt to manufacture and sell the MS 6 hand-held grinding machine they had developed themselves.

The electric motor of this invention drives a pliable, flexible shaft - a feature that gave the completely new tool its name: FLEX. This is also the origin of today's brand name and of a verb that is now part of common usage and was included in the spelling dictionary in 2006: flexen.

The success story continues to this day. With the first FLEX angle grinder, the company lays the foundation for numerous other groundbreaking innovations. In 1996, Ackermann + Schmitt became today's FLEX-Elektrowerkzeuge GmbH. The following year, FLEX was the first power tool manufacturer in Europe to introduce the long-necked sander for ceiling and wall finishing, the FLEX Giraffe®: a development that revolutionised the work processes of painters, drywallers, plasterers and many other trades. Today, the FLEX Giraffe® is the best-selling long-neck sander in the world.

All devices are CE-compliant and are monitored during manufacture by a quality management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. In addition, FLEX grants a two-year manufacturer's warranty on every power tool and accessories. The competent customer service centre reliably advises customers on all questions regarding technology and accessories and organizes the in-house repair service.
