Didriksons is a Swedish company that primarily produces winter clothing. The philosophy behind the business idea is simple: "We don't challenge the elements, but adapt to them.
Julius and Hanna Didrikson started the company with this motto back in 1913. At that time, they mainly made work clothes for the fishermen in Grundsund in western Sweden.
For over a hundred years, the concept has not changed: To this day, Didriksons produces clothing that keeps you pleasantly dry and warm in all weather conditions. This is probably also the reason why the company is still one of the leading Scandinavian brands for jackets.
Both Hanna and Julius, who both grew up in poor fishing families, had lost relatives at sea because they were inadequately dressed. Because in the period around 1910, more fishermen actually died because of inadequate clothing than by drowning. They got wet from rain or spray, cooled down and became ill.
Hanna and Julius Didrikson were determined to remedy this state of affairs. So they started experimenting and brushed oil on clothes to make them waterproof. Finally, in 1913, they succeeded in making garments that were unaffected by both the stiff breezes and the cold showers that seafarers were exposed to. The news quickly spread along the coast. Thus the first rainwear factory was established under the name Didriksons.
